PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS TO CLIMATE CHANGE- A competition for organisations in the Baltic Sea Region and the Nordic countries
The international competition targeted at the Baltic Sea Region and the Nordic countries is searching for new or as yet unestablished business concepts, practices and technologies to assist municipalities and other local and regional actors to better control the effects of climate change. The competition winners will gain publicity, customer contacts, and concrete expert assistance in the marketing of their own solutions.
The Baltic Sea Region is home to some 100 million people. While many of the region’s municipalities either have a climate strategy in place or are developing one, they often lack concrete measures to reach their goals. Organisations and companies may have practical and functional solutions to combat climate change, but they have not necessarily been able to translate them into action. It is the competition’s goal to bring together these solution providers and new customers in the Baltic and Nordic countries.
The competition is part of the ‘Solutions local, together’ Conference scheduled to be held in Turku from 31 January to 2 February 2011. The conference introduces sustainable practical solutions and encourages participants to take concrete action. It brings together over 600 actors from local, regional and national levels in the Baltic Sea Region and the Nordic countries.
The competition is looking for projects that would
- combat climate change,
- support local and regional economics, employment and general well-being,
- lead to concrete changes in the practices of the municipalities and their residents, and
- can be broadly implemented as a successful measure.
Competition entries do not have to meet all of the criteria.
COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY
Any organisation, company or municipality within the Baltic or Nordic countries is eligible to enter the competition. Entries may contain new or as yet unestablished business concepts, practices and technologies to better control the effects of climate change.
